Short Term Disability Insurance (STD) is designed to help the employee through a relatively short period of disability, often 90 to 180 days, by providing a weekly benefit check to offset living expenses. STD plans commonly provide an immediate benefit in case of an accident (non-work related) with a short waiting period for illness related benefits.
